wind 原指“缠绕、上发条”（把绳线或发条“绕上去”），在某些短语里延伸为“运转、推进”的意思；down 表示“向下、减少”。合在一起，wind down 就引申为“把速度或强度往下调”，也就是“慢慢停下来、进入放松/收尾状态”。
