词源 Etymology

starboard 源自古英语/古日耳曼语系的表达，早期形式与 “steer” 有关，原意接近“掌舵的一侧”。因为过去船的舵常装在右侧，掌舵位置在右边，于是“右舷”就固定用 starboard 来表示。与之对应的 “port” 表示左舷。
